Lat Vickers Bowern Jr.

On Tuesday January 2nd, we said goodbye to a father, a friend, and a soldier.  Lat was born on April 9, 1947 in Huntington, West Virginia.  After High School, Lat entered the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He was a Ranger in the 3rd Ranger BN and served in three rotations.  He became an instructor at the United States Ranger School in Ft. Benning, Georgia before being re-assigned to Ft. Riley, Kansas.  He served nine years and completed his enlistment as a Staff Sergeant (E-6) before retiring.  He was proud of the time he spent in service to his country and was honored to be able to serve with some of the "greatest fighters he has ever known."

Lat worked in various positions over the years ending as a plant foreman for Dupont when he retired in the late ‘90s. He was an outdoors man through and through. Lat was an avid hunter and fisherman. He never missed an opportunity to go camping, motorcycling or scuba diving, which he was a master diver and instructor. Lat enjoyed computers, reading and trips to the Dairy Queen. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Lat's family has graciously asked that contributions be made in his honor to BaseCamp for Veterans by clicking here.

Thank you, Lat for your service to this country and for playing a part in ensuring our freedom.
