Randy Helm

BaseCamp for Veterans is excited to welcome Randy Helm as our Mustang Trainer and Facilitator.  Randy was instrumental in the early stages of BCI development and consulted with us over the years.  In January 2024 Randy agreed to officially come on board and begin leading clinics and programming during our week long classes.

Here's a little more about Randy!

Randy Helm is a certified horse trainer with Lyons Legacy (John and Josh Lyons) and has been training wild horses for over 30 years.

He developed wild horse and burro inmate program for the Arizona State prison in Florence where he served as supervisor.

 

The success of his training program for inmates and horses has been featured in local, national and international news and documentaries including ABC, NBC, USA Today, Animal Planet, French National Television, Swiss TV and numerous others.

 

He has been privileged to conduct clinics and conferences in the Unites States, Canada, France, Denmark and Uruguay.

Great grandfather pioneered near Prescott Arizona in 1880

Born into a ranching family in central Arizona

Graduated from High School is Jerome Arizona 1972

US Air Force 1972 – 1976

Police officer, undercover narcotics officer and Police Chaplain (serving in Arlington Texas and Scottsdale Arizona)

Graduated from Southwestern Assembly of God University in Waxahachie Texas.

    • Arizona Department of Corrections:

      • Conducts clinics for inmates at the State Prison, Florence Az.

      • Developed a training curriculum to teach inmates who have no previous knowledge of horses.

      • Department of Corrections (responsible for certifying all DOC personnel authorized to ride a horse as part of their job).

    • Trail riding/horsemanship clinics for the general public.

      • Safety, obstacle course, trail riding, colt starting

    • Tactical clinics for the U.S. Border Patrol and law enforcement

    • Rider confidence

      • Overcoming fear and becoming a confident rider

    • Conducts Expos/clinics at state and national events

    • Has conducted clinics and cowboy church services for Country Thunder music festivals in Arizona, Texas and Canada

    • Cowboy churches

    • Men’s events

    • Disabled youth

    • Veterans

    • Law Enforcement and First Responders

    • Community events.

He lives in Coolidge Arizona with his wife Libby, 3 dogs and 3 horses.
